From lifting nearly 800 million people out of poverty to successfully hosting the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics amid the epidemic, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has demonstrated its strong governance capacity by mobilizing resources in a short time to achieve its objectives.
In 2021, China declared a complete victory in eradicating absolute poverty, lifting more than 770 million people out of poverty since the late 1970s – this figure was more than 70% of the global total over the same period. , according to World Bank statistics.
In this fight, the CCP has mobilized the energies of the Party and society for this cause. Since 2013, more than 3 million First Party Secretaries and Resident Task Force members have been dispatched to carry out targeted poverty reduction. More than 1,800 CPC members and officials have lost their lives during the alleviation of poverty, according to Xinhua.
Today, China has effectively implemented the dynamic Zero-COVID approach to protect people’s lives when the novel coronavirus disease has caused millions of overseas deaths and left many to suffer with the symptoms of a long COVID.
Yang Xuedong, a professor of political science at Tsinghua University, told the Global Times that all these achievements show the CCP’s ability to focus its resources to accomplish major tasks. “With the integration of governance resources from all aspects and strong Party and government leadership, the implementation of many important projects can be completed and important issues can be settled.”
According to Yang, the Chinese political system has a solid mass base. The people believe in the Party and rely on it. Moreover, the CCP is a highly organized political body. He has strong cohesion when making important decisions and can mobilize useful forces from all sectors of society when needed. Additionally, the CPC has self-correcting capabilities. “Although the Party has made some mistakes throughout history, which is inevitable, it learns from its mistakes and makes informed choices and improved decisions in the face of different environments and realities. This is the most important characteristic of the CCP,” Yang said.
He stressed the need to have a powerful organization especially in today’s world where the global environment is undergoing profound changes. As for problems that individuals cannot solve alone, it is important to have collective wisdom to solve them.
In June 2021, China released a white paper titled “China’s Political Party System: Cooperation and Consultation”. The white paper pointed out that under this system, the CPC wields state power, and the other eight parties fully participate in the administration of state affairs under the leadership of the CPC. They conduct cooperation based on the principles of long-term coexistence, mutual monitoring, sincerity, and sharing hard times and good.
Yang noted that an important feature of the CPC is its ability to mobilize, integrate and coordinate resources from across the country to deal with difficult issues for local governments to solve.
The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics were staged amid the outbreak. While facing increasing external pressure at this time, including the threat of a “diplomatic boycott” by some countries and defamation of the closed-loop management system, China still successfully hosted wonderful Winter Olympics. This shows that as long as the CCP and the country identify a goal, its execution is bound to be excellent.
