Focus Features and Working Title have announced their latest collaboration Polite Society, which recently wrapped production in London. The film marks the feature debut of its director/screenwriter Nida Manzoor, creator of the hit Peacock series “We Are Lady Parts” which has just been picked up for a second season.
Polite Society is produced by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title and Olivier Kaempfer of Parkville Pictures, with John Pocock serving as executive producer. The creative team consists of cinematographer Ashley Connor and numerous collaborators from We Are Lady Parts of Manzoor, production designer Simon Walker, costume designer PC Williams, makeup artist and hairstylist Claire Carter, editor Robbie Morrison and casting director Aisha Bywaters.
Polite Society is an anarchic action comedy set in London that follows RIA KHAN, a bolshy schoolgirl and martial artist in training who dreams of becoming a world famous stuntwoman. When Ria sees her big sister LENA give up on her dreams by dropping out of art school and getting engaged, Ria’s world is rocked.
She thinks she must save her sister from the shackles of marriage the only way she knows how, by enlisting the help of her friends and trying to pull off the most ambitious of all wedding robberies in the name of freedom and of brotherhood. Polite Society is a joyful MASH UP of brotherly affection, parental disappointment, and bold, bloody action.
Polite Society features a cast led by and featuring Priya Kansara (Bridgerton, Half Bad), Ritu Arya (Red Notice, The Umbrella Academy), Shobu Kapoor (We are Lady Parts), Ella Bruccoleri (Call the Midwife), Seraphina Beh (Top Boy), Shona Babayemi, Nimra Bucha (Mrs. Marvel), Jeff Mirza (We Are Lady Parts) and Akshay Khanna (Chloe).
Focus’ Production and Acquisitions President Kiska Higgs said: “Nida Manzoor’s fierce and fun take on West London’s ‘Polite Society’ brilliantly brings so many of our favorite things to life: girls behaving badly, women behaving badly, teaming up with your best friends to maybe ruin your sister’s life and, of course, kung fu.”
