Awantipora, September 4, 2022. A two-day international conference on “Society, Culture and Social Change: Kashmir and Beyond” is organized by the Islamic University of Science and Technology in collaboration with the Indian Sociological Society (ISS) on 6-7 September 2022.
Lt. Governor, UT of J&K and University Chancellor Manoj Sinha will preside over the inaugural ceremony for the event on September 6, 2022.
Meanwhile, IUST synthetic athletics track, the only international standard athletics track in Jammu and Kashmir, will also be inaugurated by LG on September 6th.
The 400m long athletics track constructed at an altitude of 1657m above sea level was developed under the Khelo India program with a project expenditure of 6.09cr from the Government of India. The 1st J&K Chancellor’s Athletic Meet: Men & Women 2022 will be inaugurated by the Chancellor and will be attended by athletes representing all J&K universities.
The keynote speaker for the two-day conference is Professor Sari Hanafi, Professor of Sociology, Chair of the Islamic Studies Program and President of the International Sociological Association at the American University of Beirut. Prof. Abha Chauhan, President of Indian Sociological Society, is the organizer of the conference. Prof. Pirzada M Amin, Controller of Examinations, IUST is the organizing secretary of the conference.
Indian Sociological Society is a professional body known for bringing together sociologists from various fields of specialization under one platform. Known for organizing conferences and workshops on topics of national and international importance, the ISS has collaborated with the IUST for the two-day international conference from September 6 to 7, 2022. This is the first World Congress of sociology to be held in Kashmir.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, who is the patron of the conference, praised the painstaking efforts of University employees in organizing such events.
The conference was organized in a hybrid manner with scholars and academicians from different parts of the world participating and sharing their scholarly knowledge. Some of the prominent delegates who will discuss and debate their cutting edge scholarship come from American University of Beirut, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Banaras Hindu University, Jamia Millia Islamia, University of Lucknow, Odisha Central University, Allahabad University, and all J&K Universities.
The conference aims to address wide-ranging issues related to the era of globalization and social change such as cultural diversities, social transformation and national identity from the perspective of various viewpoints and approaches. . It will involve the ever-increasing integration of these aspects between nations, regions and communities. The articles included are diverse and include insights, empirical studies, theoretical reflections, and critical engagements with society, culture, and social change. The conference will feature concurrent sessions in different IUST locations as well as symposia and plenary sessions.
