Netflix has released a new trailer for The Pentaveratean upcoming conspiratorial comedy series featuring the Hollywood legend Mike Myers playing eight different roles. Alongside the trailer, Netflix also revealed some new additions to the cast, including Rob Lowe and famous host Maria Menounos, who have been confirmed to make special appearances in the limited series.
The trailer shows a special message from Lowe, who welcomes a new person who has been kidnapped by the Pentaverate. In the upcoming series, the Pentaverate is initially formed by the five men who discovered the Black Death was caused by fleas in 1347. While their visionary discovery could spare millions of deaths, the Holy Church deemed the men heretics and discredited their research, leading them to create a secret society to influence world events from the shadows. Several centuries later, the Secret Society is at its peak, and the new trailer teases all sorts of fun rituals and costumes developed by the Pentaverate over the years.
The new trailer also officially introduces four of the five members of the Pentaverate’s inner circle. First, we have Lord Lordington, the oldest and highest-ranking member of the secret society. Joining the former Lord are media mogul Bruce Baldwin, former Russian oligarch Mishu Ivanov and former Alice Cooper manager Shep Gordon. The fifth member is not disclosed in the trailer, but Lowe’s message indicates that this is the person who was kidnapped. The four identified members of the Pentaverate are played by Myers, who also plays Ken Scarborough, an incompetent Canadian journalist who will try to expose the biggest conspiracy in the world.
Myers hasn’t headlined a major live-action comedy project since 2008 The Love Guru, which bombarded both critics and audiences. However, the star is making up for lost time in The Pentaverate. As the trailer highlights, Myers jumps from game to game in the upcoming limited series, pushing joke after joke about the most absurd conspiracy theories people come up with.
The Pentaverate also stars Ken Jeong, Key Keegan-Michael, Debi Mazar, Richard McCabe, Lydia Westand Jennifer Saunders. Saunders is the only other cast member to have multiple roles, as she will be playing two prominent members of the Pentaverate. The series is directed by Tim Kirkby and executive produced by Jason Weinberg and John Lyons, Tony Hernandezand Lilly Burns for JaxMedia.
The Pentaverate hits Netflix on May 5. Check out the new trailer below:
