The Mysterious Benedict Society (Season 2), Episode 6: George, Kate, Constance, Martina and Reynie were at the mercy of Dr. Garrison and the “water polo team”. Milligan and Mrs. Perumal were surrounded by “the grays”. Things weren’t going well for The Mysterious Benedict Society before this episode, and despite some small wins, it seems like they’re running into every possible pitfall.

The Mysterious Benedict Society (Season 2) Episode 6:

Recap “A Commitment to All That Is Comfortable”

The episode begins with the water polo team telling the five kids to stay still because it won’t hurt them. One of the foursome shows handcuffs before a smoke grenade enters the room. It affects all of the adults, and Rhonda subdues the villains as the smoke clears. The kids greeted her enthusiastically, and then the water polo team claimed they were independent contractors.

Dr. Garrison kept quiet about Curtain’s location, but she offered it in exchange for her freedom. She blamed him for his position and living situation, saying his destruction was in his best interest. It was a situation where the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Once they got the location information, they heard another noise. Seconds later, ‘The Greys’ arrive but collapse due to darts being fired at the back of their neck. It is revealed that Milligan and Mrs. Perumal overcame adversity at the train station and decided on the location of the children based on clues from one of the “Gray” units.

Dr. Curtain had sent many henchmen to track the group (his worthy adversaries). They fled in the night and split into three groups. Milligan, Kate and Martina fled in a van, escaping just in time as Milligan received an electric shock to the thigh. George, Constance and Mrs. Perumal fled in another direction, the latter sacrificing herself and allowing the two children to escape. Rhonda and Reynie left on the scooter Perumal had used to take them from the parked airship to the station.

Rhonda and Reynie’s scooter sputtered and stopped, delaying their trip to Curtain’s farm. Here, Rhonda helped Reynie overcome her frustrations and feel better. He even took off his precious sweater in frustration. Milligan, Kate and Martina stopped to eat. Martina bought some fruit while Milligan and Kate and a father-daughter moment about being them and being concerned. Kate didn’t want to worry; as she had learned to take care of herself over the years, she assumed she had been abandoned at the beach. Milligan reminisced about the time she fell off the cliff and into his arms on Curtain Island in Season 1.

Once at the farm, Kate and Martina talked about how the first should understand that her father is trying to be involved in her life and not just around but selflessly. Kate understood this and allowed the plans to go ahead as planned. Martina sensed the tension and cheered on the father-daughter duo before heading back to the van.

Martina snuck into the farm and encountered Jackson and Jillson. They called her a traitor, but she convinced them she was coming back to make amends. They initially refused to believe it, as Martina is a wanted felon for fleeing with her Tetherball team’s can. They finally bought her story and shared a hug where Martina slipped in a key. Martina sprinted out of the building as Jackson and Jillson headed to find the necessary documents.

Outside, Milligan and Kate moved on a date where they met Reynie and Rhonda. Where were George and Constance?

They hitchhiked in a chicken truck for Italy and got off in the middle of nowhere. The duo found refuge in the home of a Danish couple and received a rather overly friendly welcome. Constance rejected the scone she got there and earned George’s frustration. She then picked up a remote control and watched Curtain’s broadcast. It seemed to have an effect on her mind as she put on a happy face, meaning something totally against her nature. She even praised the couple’s subsequent attempt to give her food and urged George (calling her Sticky) to tell her about Boatwright Academy. Constance even praised him for telling her the story. George sensed something was wrong, but before he could act on it, “The Greys” emerged and surrounded the house.

At the farm, Dr. Curtain seemed to be training a new youngster (Augustus) with his control technique to induce an artificial state of happiness. He then argued with Nicholas and tried to steer her away from number two by positioning her as someone who could be a problem. Dr. LD Curtain then received a call from his men, informing him of Mrs. Perumal’s capture. Nathaniel seemed unimpressed and ordered his men to find the children. Jackson and Jillson then showed Curtain the frozen individuals, which he dismissed as an anomaly, and reminded his two assistants that they could not share the information. Like a true villain, he even dismissed the doctor’s conclusions.

The lead member of ‘The Greys’ went on to achieve 50% of his goal by getting his hands on George and Constance.

Simultaneously, Mr. Benedict set Number Two’s plan in motion to capture his twin. Nicholas summoned Nathaniel, made him comfortable, and then Number Two served him tea. Just as Dr. Curtain was about to drink it, Benedict stopped him and suggested that he add sugar to it to make the sip sweet. Number Two rolled his eyes and replied that there was a knock on his door.

The Mysterious Benedict Society (Season 2) Episode 6: The Ending Explained

The ending saw Kate, Milligan, Rhonda, and Reynie go to the farm. Martina left because she realized her actions (driving her tetherball team’s van, frustrated at being benched by politics) had caused problems that made headlines.

Number two apparently fell victim to the happiness-inducing technique just as the credits rolled.

Will Dr. Garrison return?

Dr. Garrison’s absence seemed a little odd, as it was thought she would do more than share Curtain’s location with the team. As the experience of happiness was her creation and she knew the risks, it is obvious that she would have a way to reverse the effects or counter the procedure. Therefore, we can expect Dr. Garrison to feature at some point during the next two episodes.

Is number two in a state of artificial happiness?

With people as sharp as Mr. Benedict and Number Two, it’s hard to say if the trick worked on them. However, as it worked on Constance, all bets are off. It seems likely that Number Two will be overflowing with happiness to balance the scales with the arrival of the Benedict Society at Curtain’s farm.

Who are all still there to fight Dr. Curtain’s diabolical plan?

It’s important as with all back and forth and sacrifice; it’s getting confusing to know who’s on the team. Imagine the sight of a transformed Constance dissuading Kate from acting on a plan to stop Dr. Curtain.

At this point, based solely on what happened on screen, Number Two, Mr. Benedict, Mrs. Perumal, George, and Constance are either captured or in an induced state of happiness. Therefore, they will be unknowingly used against the group comprising Kate, Milligan, Rhonda, and Reynie. As most (all) of the main players are in Northern Italy on the Curtain farm, it’s fair to say that we are in the endgame.

This episode was more like the fourth, which is the calm before the storm. There are only two episodes left and anything is possible now. Other questions will emerge, with the penultimate episode being an absolute blockbuster.
